BCC of ICT Division Received UN “World Summit on Information Society Award-2020”

TV24 Desk: The Bangladesh Computer Council of ICT Division of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has achieved one of the world’s most prestigious awards in the field of information technology, the “World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Award-2020”. The Bangladesh National Digital Architecture (BNDA) team of the BGD e-GOV CIRT Capacity Building Project under BCC in the e-Employment category at this 9th Annual Awards achieved by the e-recruitment platform (erecruitment.bcc.gov). Mr. Haolin Zhao, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced this at the “WSIS Forum 2020 Prizes Awards Ceremony” held online on Monday, September 7, 2020. TThe Executive Secretary of the UN Escape Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Mr. Catalin Marinescu from the ITU, H.E. Ms Katrina Naut, Ambassador of Dominican Republic, Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization Fang Liu and many others were there at the time of this award ceremony online program.

Hon’ble State Minister of ICT Division  Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP congratulated the Bangladesh Computer Council on this achievement. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh H.E. Sheikh Hasina and under the overall supervision of Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Honorable Adviser Sajeeb Wazed, the ICT Division is working relentlessly to build “Digital Bangladesh”. He is hopeful that this award of the United Nations “World Summit on Information Society Award-2020” will inspire everyone to take more successful initiatives in the future.

The Senior Secretary of ICT Division N M Zeaul Alam PAA , thanked the organizers and the award selection committee for bestowing this international honor through the “World Summit on Information Society Award-2020”. Bangladesh is rapidly improving in the information technology sector. ‘Digital Bangladesh’ is a dream. Bangladesh has already begun to reap the benefits. This achievement of BCC is really commendable.

Regarding this achievement, the executive director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Parthapratim Deb said, “We are very proud of this international award. The BCC is relentlessly trying to take various initiatives to build a digital Bangladesh. This award is a sign of success. The Recruitment Process Management Service has been established in line with the BNDA Framework to enable the BCC to contribute to the Government’s Digital Bangladesh initiative. He further said that this award will inspire us in a new way in the year of Mujib. This award is a recognition of the recognition that Bangladesh has gained as a global role model in the ICT sector.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Award is considered one of the international recognition in the field of information technology. The World Summit for Information Society is working to make people’s lives easier and change through information and communication technology. At the same time, the organization is working relentlessly to spread innovations around the world. In addition to submitting projects from the government, the private, general public, international organizations and different organizations, WSIS partners have the opportunity to participate in this competition. The names of the final winners are announced at the end of the selection and online voting process from applications received from hundreds of countries around the world. Applications were accepted in a total of 18 categories where nominations were given to 354 projects out of a total of 762 submissions. In the end, a total of 72 projects, 4 in each category, were declared as champions and a total of 18 projects in each category as the best project were declared as final winners. In the e-employment category, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Bangladesh were nominated and Bangladesh became the final winner.

The BCC has established this e-recruitment platform as a shared service for all government agencies. It enables the Government agencies to accomplish end-to-end recruitment processes and related tasks through increased interoperability, enhanced security measures, reduced risk and lower procurement costs. The BNDA team played a key role in securing this award. With this solution, the job applicant can apply for the job and pay from home through the user’s smartphone. Besides, it is possible to complete all the recruitment tasks from job posting to shortlisting the applicant. The platform has a total of 3 modules including e-recruitment, exam controller and online exam. The platform is already being successfully used in more than 25 government agencies/projects and the recruitment process of more than 1800 applicants have been completed. Over the past two years, the system has processed approximately 170,000 online applications for more than 70 positions through approximately 60 position notices.
