Legacy of Luna Shamsuddoha, the lighthouse for tech women

TV24 Desk Report: Luna Shamsuddoha is one of the leading enterpreuners in Bangladesh who contributed for upholding the nation globally through technology.

Its almost one year since we lost Luna Shamsuddoha. She made breathed her last when underwent treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals in Singapore on February 17, 2021.

She left behind a legacy that will continue to inspire more women to break barriers and take on leadership roles in the technology and business industries.

Luna is the first woman in Bangladesh who led a state-owned financial Institute as head of governing board. She served Janata Bank as chairman untill her death.

As founder chairman of Dohatec New Media, she contributed for developing solution for electronic government practice in the country.

The company supported the voter enrolling software in 2007 while the national identity card first generated from Dohatec solution.

Electronic Government Procurement(EGP) and Employment Generation for the Poorest (EGPP) projects of government run by MIS system of Dohatec.

The success tales are not confined into home but expanded beyond the border Dohatec serves Nepal and  Bhutanese government with the EGP solution.

Luna founded Dohatec in early nineties  with few amount of capital. The company began official operations in 1992 with only two staff.

Now the company has a pool of over one hundred computer engineers. Many of them come from BUET. In early days, Dohatec worked on content management.

Luna completed post-graduation in international relations from Dhaka University.

She appeared at SSC from Viqarunnisa School and HSC from Holly Cross College.

She always thought about participation of women in technology with proper knowledge acquisition.

Luna Shamsuddoha was appointed as  chairman of Janata Bank in 2016. She was also a director of Agrani Bank and SME Foundation. Luna was a trustee of Independent University of Bangladesh(IUB).

Apart from enterpreunership, Luna acclaimed for her philanthropist role fot society. She is founder of Bangladesh Women in Technology(BWIT) and executive member of Bangladesh Employers Federation.

For contributing in women empowerment, Global Women Investors and Innovators Network (GWIIN) honoured Luna Shamsuddoha in 2013.

Luna started career as management assistant at The Executive Centre in 1985. She was a faculty of English language at British Council and Dhaka University’s Institute of Modern Language.

Dohatec provides software solutions to different governments, agencies and corporations in Bangladesh, USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and other countries.
