TV24 Desk: Today is the 68th birthday of Luna Shamsuddoha, the former chairman of information technology company Dohatech New Media and Janata Bank. He was born on October 4, 1954 in Dhaka. His father’s name is Lutfar Rahman and mother’s name is Hasina Rahman. He passed SSC from Vikarunnisa Noon School and College and HSC from Holycross College. Later, he completed his graduation and post-graduation from Dhaka University’s Department of International Relations.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital on February 17 last year (2021). He was 67 years old at the time of his death. Luna Shamsuddoha was the first woman chairman of a state-owned bank in the country. She was the founder president of Bangladesh Women in Technology (WWIT). In recognition of his contribution to the country’s economy, he received the Bangladesh Business Award-2017. She received the Anonna Top Ten Award in recognition of her work in the local software industry as a woman entrepreneur.
Luna Shamsuddoha obtained her MA degree in 1978 from the International Relations Department of Dhaka University. After that, he started his career as a lecturer at the Modern Language Institute of the same university. Later joined The Executive Center in 1985 as Managing Associate. His business career began in 1992 with the establishment of Dohatech New Media and established himself as an IT expert in the country. His organization is associated with e-governance projects in various government institutions, e-GP system being one of them. In 2007-2008, he also contributed significantly to the creation of the National Identity Card.
In addition, his company has been providing software solutions to organizations, government institutions, corporations of various countries including Bangladesh, USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland. Among the customers of the company are Bangladesh Government, Bangladesh Army, World Bank, World Health Organization, United States Postal Service etc. The organization is the chosen organization for issuing digital certificates.
Luna Shamsuddoha received the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GWIN) honor in 2013 for advancing women in technology and increasing women’s empowerment. Besides, he was the founder of Bangladesh Business Magazine, a software entrepreneur and a member of Switzerland’s Global Thought Leader on Inclusive Growth.
