TV24 Desk: In an effort to create a safer digital environment for the youth of Bangladesh, JAAGO Foundation and TikTok jointly organized a roundtable discussion titled “National Dialogue on Youth & Online Safety” today at Platinum Grand, Banani, Dhaka. The event brought together policymakers, technology industry leaders, journalists, academicians, and youth representatives to engage in a meaningful discussion on the current state of digital security in Bangladesh and ways to improve it.

This dialogue was organized as part of the “Shabdhane Online A” campaign, launched in 2022, which has played a significant role in promoting online safety awareness across the country. In 2024 and 2025, Youth Ambassadors from 64 districts carried out awareness activities in 256 educational institutions, directly educating over 100,000 students on the importance of online safety. The dialogue provided an opportunity to discuss the campaign’s successes, challenges, and recommendations for future action.

During the roundtable discussion, experts shed light on digital risks in Bangladesh, including cyberbullying, misinformation, and data privacy concerns. They also presented recommendations on how government and private sector collaborations can ensure a safer and more responsible digital space for young users.

Professor Shamim Al Mamun, Institute of Information Technology, Jahangirnagar University, emphasized, “The importance of digital safety in Bangladesh is growing every day. While online platforms create new opportunities for young people, they also increase the risks of cyber threats. Incorporating online safety education into our academic curriculum is essential to prepare the next generation.”

In his closing remarks, Tanvir Chowdhury, Project Manager, Shabdhane Online A Campaign, JAAGO Foundation, said, “This is not just a dialogue; it is a roadmap for the future. Our collective efforts must continue to ensure that young people can stay safe online and become responsible digital citizens. The insights and recommendations shared today will significantly strengthen the future activities of the ‘Shabdhane Online A’ campaign.”

At the conclusion of the event, participants expressed their commitment to working together on future digital safety initiatives.
